The objectives of the Integrated Child Development Schemes are:
1. To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group 0-6 years.
2. To lay the foundations for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child.
3. To reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, mal-nutrition and school drop outs.
4. To achieve effective coordination of policy and implementation amongst the various Departments to promote child development.
5. To enhance the capacity of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education.
6. To ensure all-round development of child in early years the scheme of ICDS has been implemented with the assistance of Govt. of India and UNICEF through Social Welfare Department.

The Govt. of India has recently, revised the cost of supplementary nutrition for different category of beneficiaries vide this Ministry’s letter No. F.No. 4-2/2008-CD.II dated 07.11.2008, the details of which are as under:

Annual leave:
20 Days annual leave in a year is granted to Anganwadi Workers, out of total 20 days annual leave upto 10 days may be granted at the time of illness.
Maternity and Abortion Leave:
1. Paid absence on maternity would be provided for a period of 180 days and may cover any period beginning from the 8th month of pregnancy and admissible for a maximum of 2 occasions only to Anganwadi Workers/Helpers with less than two surviving children.
2. Paid absence on abortion/miscarriage of 45 days from the date of occurrence of abortion/miscarriage only on one occasion.
3. Paid absence on maternity and/or abortion/miscarriage would be admissible to such Anganwadi Workers/Helpers as have already completed at least 1 year’s service as such a Worker.
Insurance cover (Karya Kartri Bima Yojana):
The Anganwadi Karya Kartri Bima Yojna is a unique Group Insurance Scheme for the Anganwadi Workers/Helpers. LIC in association with Ministry of Women & Child Dev. has been operating (ANGANWADI KARYA KARTRI BIMA YOJNA) especially for them.
Eligibility:
1. Persons between age 18-59 years
2. Should be an Anganwadi Worker/Helper

Promotion of Anganwadi Workers/Helpers:
Promotion to the post of Supervisor under 50% promotional quota. Out of the total promotional quota 50% is reserved for Graduate Workers with more than 5 years experience as a Worker and 50% for under Graduate Workers with more than 10 years experience.
A. Criteria for selection of Anganwadi Workers:
a) Female candidate in the age group of 18 to 44 years. The age however, shall be reckoned on the first day of the calendar year in which the selection is made.
b) The candidate should be the permanent resident of the State.
c) Minimum qualification for Anganwadi Worker shall be Matriculate and in case no matriculate is available, middle passed candidate shall be considered.
d) In case of areas with predominant population of reserved categories, no qualification bar shall apply.
e) The candidate should belong to the hamlet where the Anganwadi centre is located. If suitable candidate is not available in that hamlet the candidate should be selected from the Revenue Village of which the said hamlet is a part. Likewise, if no suitable candidate in that Revenue Village, a candidate from the adjoining revenue Village shall be selected on the basis of inter – se-merit.
f) Weight age shall be given to the Viva –voce and academic qualification as per breakup given below:
i) Matriculation - 85 points
ii) Viva-voce - 15 points
The weight age to the academic merit shall be given on pro rata basis.
1. The candidate shall be of age group 18 to 45 and permanent resident of the village where Anganwadi Centre is located.
2. Minimum qualification middle pass.
3.Preference shall be given to candidate from BPL Category, widows, divorcee, orphan or poorest of poor.
4.The candidate to be considered for Anganwadi Helper should have sufficient accommodation for running Anganwadi Centre.
